    FAQs

What actually happens in an Enneagram Coaching Session?

The structure of a session depends upon the needs of the individual client, and is customized accordingly. Some clients are very new to the system and come to me wanting the cover the basics of the Enneagram. In a case like this, we will do a lot of education and it can be learning oriented. Other people come to me knowing a great deal about the Enneagram and are seeking support to implement change and growth. We may do a deeper dive involving advanced techniques for self observation including breathing exercises and somatic awareness techniques. Regardless of the depth of coaching, I always invite clients to create some specific goals that we can work towards. And, even if you are quite certain of your Type, our first session will always be the Typing Interview, which is a great way for me to get to know your Type and for you to get a fuller picture of all the nuances of your Type.

What’s the difference between Coaching and Therapy?

One of the most important distinguishing features between Coaching and Therapy is that Therapists are equipped and trained to work with Mental Illness, while Coaches are not. The focus in Psychotherapy is more on healing from the past, while the focus in coaching is more on getting you to where you wish to be next. That being said, Enneagram Coaching will help you to understand how your past contributes to your present; it’s just not the primary focus. If you are suffering from significant depression, severe anxiety, PTSD or other debilitating symptoms, Therapy is a better fit than Coaching.

While not a licensed Therapist, Mary has a Master’s Degree in Counseling and is well equipped to make a referral for Therapy if necessary.

How long does Enneagram Coaching last?

The typical client engages in 6-12 sessions, every other week. However, this is completely flexible and each client decides what is best for them. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions and stay with coaching over the course of years. Other clients enjoy learning about their Type over several sessions and then continue the work on their own. It’s common for people to do some initial work, then check back in from time to time for a refresher session. I am here to meet people at their point of need, and we adjust accordingly.

Will my insurance cover Coaching fees?

Insurance doesn’t cover Coaching, but if you are using your Enneagram Coaching for work related issues, some Employers will fully or partially reimburse for sessions.
